17 июля 2006 года на Южное побережье острова Явы в районе курортного места Пангандаран обрушилось цунами. Количество пострадавших исчисляется десятками человек. Тысячи зданий разрушены. Несколько отелей получили серьезные повреждения. Сила подземных толчков, которые и вызвали приливную волну цунами в Индийском океане, могла составлять 7,7 по шкале Рихтера. Число жертв цунами превысило 250 человек, сообщили в министерстве здравоохранения страны. Среди жертв цунами есть туристы- это граждане Нидерландов, Пакистана, Швеции.
