After the successful experiment on growing lettuce, starting on the ISS in August, NASA astronauts will try to grow flowers. This experiment is part of a larger project on growing plants, to examine the effects of micro gravity on plant life. This week the astronaut system has activated and put in it the seeds.Astronaut will consist of red, blue and green LEDs, activate the system supplying water and nutrients, and monitor the growth of plants. Flowers will grow for 60 days, which is two times longer than it took for growing the first two harvests of Red lettuce during a previous experiment.During the experiment, the led lights will be included within 10:00 per day, to stimulate the growth of plants. Growing zinnias will help us learn more about the growth of plants, and will learn to grow plodonosnye species such as tomatoes in the garden. The researchers want to study how the absence of gravity affects maturation of pollen. If the experiment proves successful, it will confirm the possibility of establishing space greenhouses and give travelers in deep space the opportunity to eat fresh fruits and vegetables. In the next experiment, planned for the beginning of the year 2017, the ISS team will try to grow tomatoes.
