Когда я начал переводить фильмы, то встал вопрос стиля: не может американский гангстер говорить, как английский дворянин, а речь его обязательно надо передать. И вот это уже вопрос русского языка. Ты же переводишь на русский, и прежде всего надо его и знать. Все достигается только одним: книгами, в первую очередь чтением классики. Есть, конечно, люди, которые убеждают нас, что можно выучить язык во сне, научиться играть в теннис по переписке. Есть такие, как Илона Давыдова. Но в этой жизни все достается только трудом. Пеле возьмите: был бы он Пеле, если б не работал на тренировках до седьмого пота? Не был бы он Пеле, и пропали бы у него все его гениальные способности.
