Levitan, Isaac Ilyich (1860-1900), an artist.
He was born August 30, 1860 in the Lithuanian town of Kybartai to a Jewish family. His father was a minor employee in the municipal government. In 13 years, Isaac took in the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. From the outset, studies Levitan made a living lessons and custom portraits. He graduated from the school, but because of the origin, he received the diploma of the teacher of calligraphy.
The first major painting "Peaceful Abode" he wrote after a trip in 1890 on the Russian North. Cloth bought PM Tretyakov for his gallery. In 1892, the artist was forced to leave Moscow because Jews were not allowed to stay in the capital. He settled in the village, located along the path of Vladimir, in which convicts were driven to Siberia. These places the artist captures in "Vladimirka" painting (1892). In the 90-ies. Levitan made another journey, this time along the Volga. There's painting "A fresh wind was born. Volga "(1891-1895 gg.). Aggravation of tuberculosis has caused the departure of the artist abroad, to France, then in Italy, although the efforts of friends helped him obtain a residence permit in Moscow.
On returning home from 1898 Levitan started a landscape class at the school, from which he graduated. His health deteriorated and in 1899 at the invitation of the artist Anton Chekhov moved to Yalta.
On his return, he began to teach again, but his health continued to deteriorate, and August 4, 1900 Levitan died.
M Levitan was not only a great landscape painter. His creative heritage make also drawings, watercolors, book illustrations.
