Ощущение неприкаянности, связанное с возрастными трудностями, порождает у подростков жажду группирования со сверстниками, в обществе которых они надеются найти то, в чём им отказывают взрослые. Мотивом может выступать желание укрепить своё самоуважение, получить новую информацию, удовлетворить своё стремление к властвованию над другими и т.д. Из этого можно сделать вывод, что каждый подросток ищет понимание и поддержку.
У подростков неформалов есть свои плюсы и минусы.
Плюcы в том, что большинство из их представителей - творческие натуры. Они имеют более доверительные отношения с единомышленниками. Большинство субкультур миролюбивы к остальным. Многие из них образованы и начитаны, что способствует хорошему и приятному общению. Но кроме плюсов, у них так же есть и минусы. Они замкнуты в себе и в своём мире. Некоторые субкультуры агрессивно настроены против остальных субкультур и общества в целом.
