Джулия решила поехать навестить свою мать. Мадам де Ламбер, как Майкл упорно ее называл, была уже не молода, ей было далеко за семьдесят. Джулия осознавала, что из-за своей блестящей карьеры она не уделяла матери достаточно внимания и теперь намеревалась восполнить это упущение.
Ее мать и тетушка вели скучную, однообразную жизнь, и приезд Джулии был бы для них большой радостью(доставил бы им удовольствие). А Джулии это позволит на время совершенно оторваться от прежней жизни, вновь обрести спокойствие.
К своему великому изумлению Джулия обнаружила, что для них ее известность не была достоинством, она скорее их смущала. Они даже не предложили ей с ними наносить визиты.
