Исследователи современной геополитики используют различные основания для классификации существующих гипотез, теорий и школ формирования и развития геополитического положения государств в мировом пространстве. Часто встречаются классификации, в основе которых лежит субъектный подход - анализируются и делаются выводы по тому субъекты (государству или региону), где зарождаются и имеют свое развитие концепции (англо-американская, французская, японская, российская и т. п.). Но также существует и объективный подход, в рамках которого все теории подразделяются по тем географическим целостность, которые выступают своего рода «центрами силы» или объектами геополитического интереса исследователей. В данной работе предлагается применить подход, согласно которому современные геополитические концепции группируются на базе анализа объяснительных оснований построения теоретических положений - большинство областей, в которых ведутся поиски новых подходов к изучению геополитических процессов, можно условно подразделить на два направления:
- политико-экономическая,
- стратегическая.
