Разрушение озонового слоя приводит к увеличению потока УФ излучения на земную поверхность, что ведет к учащению случаев рака кожи, катаракты и ослабления иммунитета. Избыточное облучение ультрафиолетом ведет к увеличению случаев меланомы, наиболее опасного вида рака кожи. С 1990 года риск развития меланомы более чем удвоился.
