Развитие экономики Новороссийска было связано с притоком иностранного капитала. Уже тогда крупный порт, заинтересовал французов, создавших компанию, занимающуюся перевозкой зерна. Первый же нефтепорт был основан в середине 20 века.

В Истории этого приморского города была «Новороссийская республика» -революционно-демократическая диктатура рабочих, установленная Советом рабочих депутатов в Новороссийске. Просуществовала недолго ( 12-25 декабря 1905 года) После чего была восстановлена законная власть.

Во время гражданской войны город являлся последним оплотом белого движения. Отсюда шла волна эмиграции.

Великая Отечественная Война внесла свои страницы в историю города. Новороссийская операция – 19.9 26.9.1942 сов. войска Новороссийского оборонительного района в героических боях остановили превосходящие силы противника – 17 германской армии в юго-восточной части Новороссийска и не допустили их прорыва в Туапсе.

"Новороссийско-таманская операция" 10.9- 9.10.1943. Сов. войска Сев-Кавказского фронта во взаимодействии с Черноморским фронтом нанесли поражение 17 армии фашистской Германии, прорвав так называемую «Голубую линию» обороны противника и освободили Таманский полуостров.
