Турист постоянно находится под воздействием обстоятельств повышенной опасности, поскольку пребывает в незнакомой, отличающейся от обычной обстановки его пребывания.Он не знает обычаев,языка, традиций,типичных бытовых опасностей, не имеет иммунитета от болезней, не приспособлен к интенсивным нагрузкам на организм. В Юго-Восточной Азии туристы подвергаются не только непредсказуемым атакам террористов, но и неожиданным стихийным бедствиям: наводнениям, землетрясениям, цунами. Так, двадцать шестого декабря 2004 года цунами унесло жизни двухсот тысяч человек, многие из которых были туристами из Европы и США.
