Задача, стоящая участниками проекта, заключалась в чтении и транслитерации «Писцовой книги Заонежских погостов 1616-1619 гг.», а также в обнаружении и внесении в электронную базу данных названий топонимических объектов. Необходимо также отметить, что на территории Карелии сохранилось всего пять писцовых книг (1496, 1563, 1582/83, 1616—1619, 1628—1631), которые представляют собой особо ценный исторический источник
