Подготовка и осуществление передовых изменений, складывающихся из взаимосвязанных фаз, представляют собой инновационный процесс, образующий единое целое.В результате этого процесса появляется реализованное, использованное изменение - инновация. Для осуществления инновационного процесса большое значение имеет диффузия (распространение во времени уже однажды освоенной и использованной инновации в новых условиях или местах применения). Инновационный процесс имеет циклический характер. Учет этих моментов будет способствовать созданию гибких систем организации и управления экономикой. Что касается диффузии инноваций, то это этап инновационного процесса, в ходе которого происходит массовое распространение материализованных знаний в виде новых продуктов или технологий, полученных на пяти этапах.
