One of the most beautiful optical phenomena of nature is the aurora. In most cases, aurorae are green or blue-green hue with occasional specks or border pink or red. Auroras are observed in two main forms - in the form of tapes and a cloud-like spots. When the glow intensely, it takes the form of ribbons. Losing intensity, it becomes a spot. However, many tape disappear, unable to break into spots. Tapes as if hanging in the dark space of the sky, resembling a giant curtain or drapery, usually stretching from east to west for thousands of kilometers. The height of the curtain is several hundred kilometers, the thickness does not exceed a few hundred meters, and so gentle and transparent, it can be seen that through the stars. The lower edge of the curtain rather sharply and clearly delineated and often touched up in red or pinkish color, reminiscent of fringe curtain, the top - is gradually lost in height and it creates a particularly spectacular impression of depth of space.
There are four types of auroras:
Smooth arc - luminous band has the most simple , calm form. It is a bright bottom and fades up on a background of sky glow,
radiant arc - tape becomes somewhat more active and mobile, it forms small folds and streams;
Radiant strip - with an increase in the activity of larger folds superimposed on fine;
An increase in the activity of the fold or loop expanded to an enormous size, the lower kralenty shining bright pink glow. When activity decreases, wrinkles disappear and the band returns to a homogeneous form. This suggests that a homogeneous structure is the main form of aurora, and folds associated with an increase in activity. Often there are different kinds of radiance. They capture all the polar regions and are very intense. They occur during the increase in solar activity. These auroras are presented in the form of a whitish-green cap. These auroras are called squalls. Brightness radiance divided into four classes, which differ from each other by one order of magnitude (ie a factor of 10). The first class includes lights, faint and roughly equal in brightness of the Milky Way, the fourth-grade lights illuminate the ground as bright as the full Moon. It should be noted that arose glow extends to the west at a speed of 1 km / sec. The upper layers of the atmosphere in the heated outbursts of auroras and move up, which affected the strong deceleration of satellites passing these areas.
