Почти на всех современных международных конференциях создается генеральный комитет. Обычно в его состав входят: председатель, заместители председателя конференции, генеральный докладчик и должностные лица главных комитетов (председатели, их заместители и докладчики). Функции генерального комитета заключаются в оказании помощи председателю в общем руководстве работой конференции. Генеральный комитет призван способствовать повышению эффективности работы конференции.
