В Бенгалии и других восточных штатах Индии Дашахра отмечается как праздник Богини Дурги. Девять дней верующие возносят ей молитвы, а на десятый увитое гирляндами изображение Богини в сопровождении процессии верующих выносят на берег моря, реки или водоема, после чего мужчины поднимают его на плечи и погружают в воду. В Южной Индии Дашахру называют Навратри (Navratri). Он посвящается Дурге, Лакшми и Сарасвати, каждой из которых поклоняются в течение трех дней. По случаю праздника принято посещать родных и друзей, приносить им подарки и поздравления.
