В начале 19 столетия Забайкальский край исследовался с целью возможности землепользования. В результате было вынесено решение об основании деревень вдоль реки Ингоды. При этом бурятам, обитавшим в этих местах, предложили перебраться в другое место. Кочевники согласились, но в ответ потребовали выдачу документов на право вечного владения новыми землями.После того, как буряты покинули родовые кочевья, была основана деревня Домна. Её название произошло от местного гидронима протекавшей здесь реки Урбу-Догно. В переводе с бурятского «догно» означало лёд. И в действительности вода реки даже в августе бывает очень холодной.В октябре 1876 года в деревне заложили церковь. Спустя три года ее освятили и открыли для прихожан. Средства на строительство храма пожертвовал местный житель Ефим Калашников. В конце 19 столетия при церкви открыли приходскую школу. К началу следующего века она была расширена, и в ней обучалось 5 девочек и 17 мальчиков. После прихода советской власти школу преобразовали в светскую.
