Присяжный заседатель в Англии – это неграмотный в области права гражданин Великобритании в возрасте от восемнадцати до семидесяти лет, обладающий правом голоса на выборах, и проживающий на территории Англии не менее пяти лет.

Список присяжных заседателей составляется методом случайного выбора из списка избирателей соответствующего округа. Считается, что методика случайного выбора служит эффективной гарантией беспристрастности при составлении списка кандидатов в присяжные.

Заседание суда присяжных проводится под председательством судьи с участием двенадцати присяжных.
