Еще совсем недавно мы были самой читающей нацией в мире. И вполне искренне гордились этим. А в последнее время все чаще задаем друг другу вопрос: «Когда же в последний раз брали книгу в руки?»

Как утверждает опрос, проведенный Аналитическим центром Юрия Левады, сейчас лишь большинство школьников регулярно читают книги (80 процентов пятиклассников и 64 процента девятиклассников). Причем не из-под палки, по указке родителей или учителей, а действительно с удовольствием.

Зато чем старше, тем хуже. Лишь 10 процентов взрослых прочли за последние три месяца хотя бы пять книг. Остальные - еще меньше. То ли у людей не хватает времени на то, чтобы посидеть в кресле с любимым детективчиком или любовным романом, то ли им книгу с успехом заменил Интернет.

Да и заваленные томиками Пушкина, Толстого, Достоевского стеллажи и шкафы в квартирах россиян (причем опрос проводился среди жителей больших городов) - тоже теперь роскошь в отличие от компьютера или телевизора. И только у 12% опрошенных есть дома библиотеки свыше 500 книг (среди людей с высшим образованием процент чуть выше - 19).
