I grew up wanting to please my father, and I have always fondly remembered the special good-night times we had together. Bedtime offers some marvelous moments for parents to deal with children. It can be a time for real communication.

The navy wanted me to be good at engineering, navigation, ocean sciences and the like. But I was really good at what I called my hobby. I've talked with many other people who have found the same thing to be true. An extracurricular activity – the thing they call a hobby – is really a natural gift and what they (people) do best. Sometimes people can turn hobbies into careers. Sometimes it doesn't work out, but it's worth considering the possibilities. Are your hobbies really what you do best?
