Традиционно праздник Дашахра принято отмечать в честь победы Рамы над десятиголовым демоном Равана. Восемь дней понадобилось Раме, чтобы убить противника, в этом ему помогла Богиня-воительница Дурге, которой он постоянно молился. На девятый день герой отправился на родину, освободив из плена жену Ситу. Эти героические события легли в основу празднования Дашахра. На улицах города в эти дни царит оживленная атмосфера: повсюду устраиваются массовые танцы, а также театрализованные представления. На десятый день чучело Раваны торжественно сжигают.
