в данном рассказе Моэм поднимает множество проблем. Например, проблема патриотизма. В данном тексте Моэм восхищается героизмом французского народа в его борьбе с фашистскими захватчиками.

Поднимается проблема любви. Моэм хочет сказать читателю, что любовь нельзя купить. Сколько бы всего Ганс не приносил семье фермера, Аннет не купилась на это.

Также поднимается проблема морали. Анетт убила собственного ребёнка только из-за мести к его отцу. Но я считаю, что убить ребёнка это бесчеловечно и аморально. Я бы ещё поняла, если бы она убила Ганса. Хотя даже это тут не совсем уместно. Но ребёнок тут при чём? ребёнок ни в чём не виноват.
