Проводится анализ понятия «храм» в социально-религиозном аспекте. Показана специфика архитектурных сооружений храмов некоторых древних цивилизаций на примере Древнего Египта, Древнего Рима, Древней Греции и Древнего Иерусалима. В храмовой архитектуре этих цивилизаций отражались их религиозные представления. Храмы выступали сакральными центрами, а их назначение в социокультурном смысле заключалось в духовном единение народа. Храм – это религиозное строение для совершения богослужений и обрядов. Для того чтобы показать сакральность в религиозном представлении в статье обращается внимание на обряд жертвоприношения у некоторых древних цивилизаций. Определяются и подробно описываются функции и роль храма в религиозных системах древности с выделением его основной функции. Автор приходит к выводу о том, что в древних цивилизациях храм играл важную роль во всех сферах жизни – экономической, сельскохозяйственной, религиозной и юридической.
