Восточные культуры стали не только предметом исторического или философского исследования, но и социологического анализа, направленного на выяснение их роли в современной жизни, в самоопределении и развитии освободившихся стран «третьего мира». Это потребовало изменения прежних принципов и подходов, которыми располагала социология культуры. В ней ослабевает влияние прежних структурно-функциональных методов, приспособленных к «нормальной», то есть западной культурной среде. Все большее значение приобретают компаративистика, сопоставляющая разные варианты и уровни куль-
туры, и проблематика взаимодействия культур, каждая из которых сохраняет свою самобытность.

Oriental culture became not only the subject of historical or philosophical research and sociological analysis, aimed at clarifying their role in modern life, in the self-determination and development of the liberated countries of the third world.
