«Скотный двор» - роман-притча английского писателя Дж. Оруэлла. Наблюдения за политическими событиями начала 20 века вылились у автора в метафорическую историю жизни общества в условиях тоталитаризма. Особенно ярко и точно раскрыт феномен того, как самые благие намерения и прогрессивные идеи человечества могут быть перекручены и использованы ему во вред.

В романе рассказывается о ферме, хозяин которой обращался действительно жестоко с животными: практически не кормил, заставлял слишком много работать, избивал их кнутом. Тема произведения – развитие животных и их жизни на ферме после того, как они прогнали хозяина. Под этой символической маской скрывается история развития государства СССР после революции 1917 года, от переворота во имя всеобщего равенства и справедливости до установления жесткой диктатуры государственной власти над всеми сферами общественной жизни, в которой уже ни о каком реальном равенстве и свободе людей речи быть не могло.
