В 1890 году Намибия была объявлена протекторатом Германии под названием Юго-Западная Африка.
В 1915 году территория страны была захвачена ЮАР и в 1920 году Лига Наций предоставила ЮАР мандат на управление Намибией.
1968г. – ООН приняла решение о переименовании Юго-Западной Африки в Намибию.
21 марта 1990 года Намибия получила независимость. Страна является членом ООН
