THE RAILWAY STATION

When people enter the railway station they go through a door with the notice ENTRANCE and go out through a door with the notice EXIT. Here we are at the station. How busy it looks. There a lot of platforms from which stopping trains, through trains and express trains come in and go out. If people want to get some information about a schedule for railway – traffic they look for the notices ARRIVALS and DEPARTURE but if they want to get some information about the places where they have to change train they go to Information Bureau. There is a booking office at the railway station where you can book a ticket for your journey, or book it by telephone some days in advance.
There is a waiting room where you may rest and wait for the time to board your train. Do not be afraid to miss your train, because incoming and outgoing trains are announced by loud speaker all over the station. At the railway station you see the porters are busy helping travelers to carry their luggage to the train, pushing it on their trucks, wheeling it on their motor tracks. They are taking those trunks and suitcases to the luggage van. This is an express train. There are many sleeping – cars in the train. Before entering the carriage the passengers show their tickets to a guard, who takes care of them while they are traveling. When they enter their compartments they put their suitcases and bags on the rack, and take their seats. There are non – smokers and smokers in the train. On one of the platform some people and porters are waiting for a train to come in. There is a restaurant at the railway station where people can have their dinner, breakfast and supper. But there are many people who drink a cup of coffee, eat sandwiches, buns or biscuits. They can get all those refreshments at refreshment rooms or refreshment – trolleys. While traveling by railway, passengers can have meals in the dining – car. There is a left – luggage office at the station where passengers can leave some heavy luggage until they find a place to stay in. The left – luggage office is divided into two parts which are called DEPOSITS where luggage is left and WITHDRAWALS from which luggage is taken away. At every station you can see some passengers hurrying to the booking – office, others are having their luggage registered, while many other travelers are buying newspapers, books and magazines at the bookstall. Some people are hurrying to meet incoming trains, others are arriving to see friends and acqua¬intances off
