Казахстан – конституционная республика с президентской формой правления. Президент Республики Казахстан — высшее должностное лицо и главнокомандующий Вооруженными силами страны. Его полномочия определены специальным разделом Конституции. Должность учреждена 24 апреля 1990 года. Первый Президент Казахстана – Нурсултан Абишевич Назарбаев. Исполнительную власть осуществляет Правительство. Глава Правительства — премьер-министр. Законодательная власть – Парламент: верхняя палата – Сенат (39 человек) избирается каждые 6 лет, нижняя палата – Мажилис (107 депутатов, 9 из них представляют Ассамблею народа Казахстана) избирается раз в 5 лет.
