Тебердинский государственный заповедник играет важную роль в сохранении животного мира Западного Кавказа.
На территории заповедника зарегистрировано 74 вида животных, из которых 36 внесены в Красную книгу России.
Кубанский тур - наиболее характерный обитатель заповедника. Он населяет скалистые участки Кавказского хребта. Тур является стадным животным. Взрослые самцы образуют стада до 150 животных. Отличительная черта тура - саблевидные рога. Старые самцы имеют рога до 1 метра
