Фильм рассказывает о юристе Шлипмане, который во время интервью на радио получил звонок от женщины, чей сын умер от лейкемии. Она цитирует ранее сказанные Шлипманом слова, о том, что ему важны его клиенты. Он понимает, что ему придется ехать на встречу с этими семьями и он объясняет им, что это дело не выгодно и нет никого кто в ответе за последствия. Но после того, как он обнаружил две крупные компании его мнение изменилось. Он понял, что его ждет хороший куш и его желание выиграть. Как он и планировал, ему предложили 20 миллионов долларов, но даже эта сумма не нарисовала улыбки на его лице. Он понял, что ведет это дело уже не ради денег, которые потеряла не только его фирма.
