Магдебургский мост в Германии – это уникальное сооружение, служащее не для автомобилей и поездов, а для судов и пешеходов. Это самый большой водный мост в Европе. Он имеет большое практическое значение для внутреннего судоходства Германии. Мост обеспечил беспрепятственную связь внутреннего берлинского порта с промышленными объектами на Рейне. Магдебургский мост проходит над Эльбой и соединяет между собой две важнейшие водные артерии страны – Среднегерманский канал и канал Эльба-Хафель и, тем самым, избавляет суда от необходимости совершать длительный и местами опасный переход по реке.
Строительство моста было запланировано еще в начале XX-го столетия. К 1938 году был воплощен в жизнь первый этап проекта. На реализацию грандиозной инженерной задумки были потрачены колоссальные средства – свыше полумиллиарда евро. Но мост того стоит! Все желающие могут пройтись по нему и вблизи рассмотреть это удивительное сооружение. Мост открыт для туристов, на нем есть пешеходные и велосипедные дорожки, стоянка для автомобилей и даже небольшой музей, в котором можно ознакомиться с историей строительства.
