В 1904 году молодая девушка из дворянской семьи вышла замуж за офицера русской армии по фамилии Нечипоренко. Случилось это за несколько дней до внезапно разразившейся русско-японской войны. Муж вынужден был отправить жену к своим родителям в родовое имение, а сам отбыл в далекую Маньчжурию.

Однажды молодая жена лежала в зале на диване в каком-то полузабытьи, машинально глядя в зеркало, висевшее в простенке между окнами. Вдруг внимание девушки привлекли странные картины, «выплывающие» из зеркальной глубины: сопки, поросшие деревьями и припорошенные снегом. Потом заметила странное движение. Пристально вглядевшись, узнала своего мужа и его денщика. Они ползли, оглядываясь по сторонам. Но вот из глубины появились еще две фигуры, двигавшиеся тоже скрытно. Девушка вздрогнула – это были явно азиаты. Первый из них подкрался к нашим, достал нож и занес его над ее мужем. Охваченная ужасом и плохо понимая, что делает, девушка схватила со столика первый попавшийся под руку предмет и швырнула во врага. Раздался звон разбитого стекла.
Вбежавшие в зал домашние обнаружили ее лежащей в глубоком обмороке. Позже девушка рассказала о своем видении, и ее свекор в подробностях записал все в дневник.

А буквально через несколько недель в имение приехал муж молодой женщины, –получивший из действующей армии короткий отпуск. И сразу поведал о поистине таинственном и не поддающемся объяснению случае, происшедшем с ним на войне.

По словам офицера, однажды вместе с денщиком они отправились в разведку. Скрытно пробрались по сопкам во вражеский тыл. Вдруг раздался женский крик и послышался звон разбитого стекла. Вскочив на ноги, воины увидели сзади двух лежавших на снегу японцев с ножами в руках. Оба были мертвы!

Отпускник с недоумением начал переводить взгляд с отца на жену. Тогда отец принес дневник с описанием того самого видения девушки.

С тех пор эта история передавалась в семье Нечипоренко из поколения в поколение и сохранилась до сегодняшних дней.
