Виртуальная реальность как концепция обсуждалась с 1993 года. С развитием технологического прогресса теория начала приобретать практической применение. Стоимость программного обеспечения и оборудования для работы с вр значительно ниже чем у робота да винчи. Работа в вр интуитивно понятна и не требует предварительного обучения, более того, тренировки с вр симуляторами отлично дополняют традиционную форму обучения.
