Я хочу рассказать вам о изобретении в Японии трех мерном телевиденье, но оно пока в стадии разработки.
Правительство Японии приняло решение начать работы по внедрению в стране к 2020 году полностью объемного телевидения виртуальной реальности, дающего зрителю возможность по ходу программы ощущать запахи и даже трогать иллюзорные объекты.

Речь идет не о модернизации нынешнего телевизора с экраном, а о создании полностью трехмерного домашнего театра, на сцене которого будут действовать объемные фигуры и объекты. Смотреть на них можно будет с любой точки, заходя даже "в тыл" происходящему.

Новое телевидение должно также позволить зрителю ощущать запахи по ходу действия, чувствовать, например, дуновение ветра. В некоторых случаях будет также возможность потрогать демонстрируемый объект. Эту функцию разработчики считают особенно важной, поскольку, по их мнению, новое телевидение будет выполнять и функции виртуального магазина, где можно будет спокойно выбрать и "пощупать" предлагаемые товары.

В 2006 финансовом году на исследовательские работы по этому проекту в госбюджете предполагается выделить около 10 млн долларов.
В основе японских разработок лежит технология, представленная в 2005 году корпорацией Toshiba. После фотосъемки объектов со многих ракурсов снимки проходят компьютерную обработку и воспроизводятся на трехмерном дисплее через систему специальных линз. Объемный эффект создается за счет того, что зритель наблюдает изображение под разными углами зрения. Эта технология принципиально отличается от той, что уже используется на некоторых дисплеях (пионером был тоже японский Sharp), когда применяется эффект параллакса - на экране формируются разные картинки для правого и левого глаза, что придает изображению безо всяких очков объемный эффект.
