Это произошло на Аляске в городе Ном. Началась эпидемия дифтерита, грозившая погубить всех детей.
В городе не было вакцины. За ней отправился владелец лучшей в городе собачьей упряжки. На обратном пути их застигла пурга. Собаки постепенно обессилили и падали в снег, одна за одной, взглядом прося прощения у хозяина.
