Зимние Олимпийские игры 2014 (XXII зимние Олимпийские игры) — международное спортивное мероприятие, проходившее с 7 по 23 февраля 2014 года в российском городе Сочи.

Выбор города

22 июня 2006 года президент МОК Жак Рогге из семи претендовавших заявок (Хака, Алма-Ата, София, Боржоми, Сочи, Зальцбург, Пхёнчхан) назвал имена трёх городов-кандидатов. Ими стали Сочи, Зальцбург и Пхёнчхан.

4 июля 2007 года в Гватемале состоялась очередная, 119-я сессия МОК, на которой был выбран город-хозяин Олимпиады.

В первом туре голосования, в котором принимали участие 97 участников-представителей стран МОК, выбыл австрийский Зальцбург. Во втором туре победу одержала заявка Сочи, выиграв у Пхёнчхана 4 голоса (51 против 47). Таким образом Россия впервые стала страной-хозяйкой Зимних Олимпийских игр.

Талисманы

Талисманами Зимних Олимпийских игр 2014 года были выбраны Белый Мишка, Леопард и Зайка.

Выбирали талисманов с трудом и приключениями. Несколько голосований были объявлены недействительными, победившие варианты отвергались, сроки голосований переносились.

Итоговые результаты голосования были таковы:
Леопард (автор Вадим Пак, г. Находка) − 28,2 % голосов
Белый Мишка (автор Олег Сердечный, г. Сочи) − 18,3 % голосов
Зайка (автор Сильвия Петрова, деревня Новое Буяново, Янтиковский район, Чувашия) − 16,4 % голосов.

Эстафета олимпийского огня

Эстафета олимпийского огня «Сочи 2014» является самой продолжительной и масштабной в истории зимних Олимпийских игр. Стартовала она 7 октября 2013 года и завершилась в день открытия Олимпиады 7 февраля 2014 года.

Церемония открытия

Церемония началась в 20:14 по московскому времени.

зрители на стадионе увидели театрализованное представление, продемонстрировавшее основные вехи русской истории – от Древней Руси и времен Петра I и до Советского Союза.

В церемонии открытия принимало участие 1 200 танцоров и 980 акробатов, а также 200 воздушных гимнастов.

Церемония закрытия

Торжественная церемония закрытия XXII Зимних Олимпийских игр началась 23 февраля в 20:14 по московскому времени на стадионе «Фишт» и продолжалась в течение 2,5 часов. Основной темой шоу стала русская культура глазами европейца. Постановщиком церемонии стал итальянский театральный режиссёр Даниэле Финци Паска.

После парада состоялось последнее на Олимпиаде-2014 награждение победителей.

После награждения олимпийцев продолжилось представление, в которой о русской культуре рассказывали через живопись, музыку, балет, литературу и цирковое искусство. Часть церемонии была посвящена передаче Олимпийского флага столице будущих зимних Игр — корейскому городу Пхёнчхан.

Напоминая об Олимпиаде-80 в Москве, на стадионе прозвучал фрагмент музыки Александры Пахмутовой «До свиданья, Москва», после чего Мишка задул олимпийский огонь.
