Американские семьи в среднем имеют троих детей. Если в семье лишь один ребенок, его считают избалованным. В большинстве сегодняшних семей нет явного главы семьи, и мать, и отец равноправны. Оба родителя обычно работают полный рабочий день. Ребенок, если он есть, отдается в day care и забирается оттуда вечером. Семья находится в постоянном движении.
