Mokosh - the only female deity of ancient pantheon, whose idol was in Kiev
near the idols of Perun, Veles and other deities. When listing the gods of Kievan Rus in
the "Tale of Bygone Years" (980) Mokosh closes the list, starting with Perun. According
northern Russian Ethnography Mokosh represented as a woman with a large head and long
arms, spinning at night in the hut. Typologically Mokosh close the Greek Moira,
German Norns, spinning the thread of destiny, Hittite goddesses of the underworld - spinners,
Iranian Ardvisura Anahita. One of the epithets Mokosh was naming "the mother-land of cheese."
