Медицинская система Великобритании действует на основе Национальной службы здравоохранения (NHS), созданной после окончания Второй мировой войны в 1948 году. Несмотря на произошедшие изменения в самой системе, она как была, так и осталась совершенно бесплатной для всех нуждающихся. Финансирование осуществляется из налогов, а медпомощь может получить не только гражданин Великобритании, но и любой проживающий на территории Объединенного Королевства лиц, для этого не обязательно платить налоги и являться британским подданным – нужно просто зарегистрироваться в больнице, находящейся поблизости от места жительства и можно рассчитывать на любые медуслуги
