Для получения виз РК иностранные граждане должны обратиться в дипломатическое/консульское учреждение Республики Казахстан в стране пребывания с предоставлением действительного паспорта (либо международного проездного документа), копии письма-приглашения с отметкой номера визовой поддержки ДКС МИД РК (либо оригинала частного приглашения, оформленного органами внутренних дел РК), заполненной визовой анкетой и фотокарточкой.

Срок действия паспорта должен истекать не ранее 6 месяцев после окончания срока действия запрашиваемой визы. Необходимость предоставления других документов определяется консулом на месте. Для иностранных граждан, въезжающих в Республику Казахстан совместно с супругами, детьми или родителями - гражданами Республики Казахстан, визы могут оформляться на основании заявлений вышеуказанных родственников, сроком до одного месяца, но не более двух раз в течение года (данное ограничение не распространяется на несовершеннолетних иностранных граждан, следующих совместно с родителями-гражданами Республики Казахстан)

В случае заболевания либо смерти близких родственников, допускается оформление виз на основании соответствующей международной телеграммы из Республики Казахстан, заверенной врачом.
Иностранным гражданам - выходцам из Республики Казахстан могут выдаваться частные визы сроком до трех месяцев для посещения родных мест и могил родственников на основании их личных обращений (без посредничества туркомпаний) и подтверждающих документов, таких как графа в паспорте, свидетельство о рождении в Республике Казахстан или копии документа о захоронении близкого родственника в РК, либо справки о выходе из казахстанского гражданства.
