As we all know, Personal Computers

As we all know, Personal Computers or PC, are build using multiple components

of different purpose that once combined make all this coherent system work flawlessly.

One of the core components of the PC is memory, the thing that stores

data/information. There are two types of memory in the PC, short-term / temporary

memory and long-term / permanent memory. The first one, temporary memory is a

component called RAM which stands for Random Access Memory, one of the main

specs or parameters of this component is memory size which means that maximum

capacity of this component is limited to as specific size predefined by the manufacturer.

RAM have 3 generations DDR1, DDR2, DDR3 - DDR5 which stands for the speed of the

particular piece. All other components can have access to this memory and the transfer

speed is usually different and it is a combination of speed and memory size thus we can

have : First gen : 256 MB, 1024 MB, 1GB RAM and Second gen: 2, 4, 8, 16 GB of RAM,

the second generation can have speed up to 128, 256, 512 bits.

Another temporary memory is cache memory which transfer data between

processor and temporary buffer which also have a size but not so big as RAM, so it can

vary between 2,4,8,12,16,24,32MB the main feature of temporary memory that it don’t

store data after the power shut down or session logout.

The last integrated type of memory which is long term memory is HDD or SSD.

Hard disk drive and SSD. Solid state drive which have a greater size then temporary

memory and can store memory permanently even after computer shut down or power

outage, but the temporary memory has to reset and clear after each shutdown.

Permanent memory sizes have also 3 generations, from 5 MB HDD in 1973 to 10

terabytes each drive nowadays, the size of memory is very important part of the

computer system today and play a great role of the computer capacity, all branches of

development starting from computer science and film industry to physics and

astronomy, all use to store more data and process greater sizes to do better things that

will lead for sure, humanity to a greater future.
