В зависимости от методов формирования доходов экономических субъектов финансовую систему принято разделять на две сферы:

централизованные или публичные финансы;
децентрализованные финансы.
Финансовая система также подразделяется на четыре подсистемы:

Финансы хозяйствующих субъектов (предприятий и организаций различных форм собственности и сфер деятельности)
Финансы домашних хозяйств
Государственные финансы
Муниципальные финансы
Первые две подсистемы относятся к сфере обслуживания децентрализованных финансов, а вторые две - к сфере централизованных (публичных) финансов.
