Magna Carta - a charter, signed in 1215 by the English King John I. It is composed in the Latin language and contains 63 articles. The document was signed as a result of dissatisfaction with the barons strengthening of royal power, tax burden, and a failed foreign policy of the king. Most of the articles reflected and protected the interests of the aristocracy. However, other estates have also received considerable rights. Magna Carta guaranteed the observance of the king certain obligations with respect to the barons, forbade the king to collect taxes without the consent of the governed. Charter laid the foundation for the freedom of the individual. No one could be arrested, imprisoned, deprived of property or protection of the laws, banished, or subjected to a four of a kind, except by a court of his peers and according to the laws of the country. It was the first in the history of England document that limits the power of the crown and proclaiming the rights and freedom of citizens. A number of articles have been developed in the Habeas Corpus Act and the Bill of Rights.
