В 2006-м году колесо «Лондонский глаз» одна из авторитетнейших в мире компаний оснастила уникальной в своем роде подсветкой. Ночью колесо обозрения светится всевозможными цветами благодаря запатентованной системе Color Kinetics. Эта ультрасовременная система позволяет оператору менять не только цвета, но и создавать на колесе обозрения различные световые эффекты. Во время открытия Лондонской Олимпиады 2012 года, колесо обозрения, а точнее внутреннее оснащение кабинок-капсул, было изменено: в каждой появился огромный телевизор и даже высокоскоростной доступ во всемирную паутину.
