В тоже время ошибочное употребление жестов может привести к очень серьезным недоразумениям. Так, широко известен пример, когда один американский политик был с визитом в Латинской Америке. В своих речах он постоянно подчеркивал, что США хотят оказать помощь этой стране, демонстрировал свое дружелюбие и расположение окружающим. Но его поездка не увенчалась успехом. Его самой большой ошибкой было то, что, сходя с трапа самолета, он продемонстрировал всем известный американский жест — ОК, не подозревая о том, что в Латинской Америке это очень неприличный жест.
