Первые в мире скульптурные изображения динозавров появились именно в Лондоне. Они расположены в "Кристал-Пэлас-парке" с 1854 года. Именно отсюда пошло увлечение человечества этими рептилиями.

В этом месте был построен Хрустальный дворец к Всемирной выставке 1851 года. После нее дворец перенесли в Сиднем-Хилл (предместье Лондона). А местность, окружавшую дворец было решено превратить в общественный парк. Скульптор Бенджамин Хокинс получил заказ - воссоздать в парке в натуральную величину ископаемые существа, описанные учеными XIX века. Консультировал скульптора знаменитый палеонтолог Ричард Оуэн. Именно он ввел слово "динозавр" в обиход (соединив два греческих слова - "ящерица" и "ужасный").
