На заседании Совета по горно-металлургической отрасли, геологии и недропользованию по твердым полезным ископаемым при Президенте Республики Казахстан от 5 декабря 2013 года было поручено АО «Инвестиционный фонд Казахстана» и АО «Тау-Кен Самрук» проработать вопросы восстановления производства металлургического кремния в Карагандинской области. Таким образом, проект подразумевает проведение комплекса работ по подготовке запуска завода по промышленному производству металлургического кремния мощностью 25 000 тонн в год и чистотой не менее 98,5%, в рамках заключенного в декабре 2013г. соглашения о сотрудничестве с АО «Инвестиционный фонд Казахстана».
