Французкие физики Ирен и Фридерик Жолио-Кюри открыли искусственную радиоактивность. В 1934 г. физик Лео Силард запатентовал атомную бомбу в Англии.
Работы над атомными проектами в СССР и США начались одновременно.Физик Ажулиус Роберт Оппенгеймер возглавлял разработки американских ядерщиков по созданию первой в истории человечества атомной бомбы во время Второй мировой войны.
