Фильм начинается с того, что в жестокий мир лабиринта и его жителей попадает очередной юноша. Из всей своей прошлой жизни он помнит только то, что его зовут Томас. И теперь ему предстоит научиться выживать в новых условиях. У каждого подростка в Приюте есть свое дело: одни готовят еду, другие выращивают ее, третьи держат в своих руках власть… А Томас выбрал самое опасное и самое интересное – исследование лабиринта.  Он верит, что найдет выход.
