В отраслевой структуре промышленного комплекса Могилева доминирующими отраслями являются машиностроение и металлообработка (31,8 %), химическая и нефтехимическая (31,0 %), пищевая (21,5 %), легкая (9,4 %), которые определяют практически весь внешнеторговый оборот города.
Ведущее место в промышленном комплексе города принадлежит ОАО «Могилевхимволокно» — крупнейшему в Европе предприятию по производству химических волокон. Благодаря широкой номенклатуре и качеству выпускаемой продукции, отвечающему самым высоким мировым стандартам, предприятие завоевало рынки в 40 странах мира.
