I live in Luhansk.

Our city is located in the eastern part of Ukraine. It was founded in 1795. At first it was only a metallurgical plant, but now it is the center of Luhansk region. As far as I know, Luhansk takes the eleventh place among all the Ukrainian cities and towns in population. It has about 500,000 inhabitants.

Certainly my home city has its own history which is closely connected with the development of its industry and the workers movement of the past.

Nowadays there are many educational establishments in Luhansk. They are: Luhansk Medical University, Vladimir Dahl East-Ukrainian National University, Luhansk Agricultural Academy, Taras Shevchenko Pedagogical University, Militia Academy; about 70 schools, several technical schools, vocational schools and colleges. But in spite of such number of educational establishments cultural standards and knowledge of our people could be better.

Our city has both apartment houses and private homes. There are several parks and squares in Luhansk where tired people can relax in summer heat. The most famous of them are: Young Guards Square, Childrens Park, Victory Square, May Day Park and others.

There are some places where people can have a nice rest at the river bank, at the beaches. We have three nice rivers which are called the Luhanka, the Olkhovka and the Seversky Donets. We also have a big lake that is called the Sea of Luhansk.

There are a lot of beautiful monuments and memorials in our lovely city. My favorites are: Taras Shevchenko Monument, Ostraya Mogila Memorial Complex, the World War 2 Heroes Monument and others. We have four nice museums and three theatres: the Ukrainian Drama Theatre, the Puppet Theatre and the Russian Drama Theatre.

There are four huge markets in Luhansk where the majority of the residents shop for food and clothes.

There are three swimming pools and several libraries in Luhansk.

Our city is also famous for its sport achievements. Soccer, chess, gymnastics and Greco-Roman wrestling are especially developed in Luhansk.

There are many industrial enterprises in our city, Luhansk is the industrial center of the eastern Ukraine.

I am happy to live in Luhansk.

There are some recreational places in Luhansk region where several famous sanatoriums are located. The most famous sanatoriums are in Kremennaya district. I have relatives in Kremennaya and every summer I have a nice rest there. There are very beautiful forests and some wonderful lakes in Kremennaya. It is a small and quiet town, the air is very fresh and healthful.
